Christmas is a season of togetherness for Filipino families: a time filled with familiar voices, shared meals, and traditions passed down through generations. But for the millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who spend the holidays away from home, Christmas often arrives with a quiet longing – the kind that comes from celebrating through screens, working through shifts, and holding on to the memory of home. This year, Coca-Cola sought to bring home a little closer through SoundOfHome.FM, a special Christmas initiative built around a 24-hour broadcast of heartfelt messages and Filipino carols recorded by families across the Philippines.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Coca-Cola rolled out a nationwide “Caroloke Caravan” that travelled to key cities and Pasko festivals to help Filipino families record personal dedications for their loved ones abroad. Parents shared messages of encouragement, children sang their OFW parent’s favorite Christmas songs, and spouses offered words of affection and gratitude that often go unspoken throughout the year. Filipinos across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao also submitted recordings through a dedicated digital platform, creating a collective chorus of love and longing from across the country.
These messages became the heart of a 24-hour on-air celebration aired in Australia on December 25. OFWs tuning in were greeted not just by familiar carols, but by the unmistakable surprise sound of the people they miss the most. Radios, phones, and speakers became emotional lifelines as workers overseas heard the voices of their families, delivering the comfort and connection in the most Filipino way: with sincerity, humor, and warmth.
To honor these heartfelt exchanges, Coca-Cola released a Christmas film titled “Sound of Home.” Filmed across Australia, the documentary-style piece captures the raw reactions of OFWs as they hear their family’s messages for the first time. A mechanic pauses mid-shift as his daughter sings to him; a convenience store worker holds back tears upon hearing her mother’s voice; a kitchen staff member breaks into a smile at a simple “Ingat ka palagi.” These moments reveal a truth every Filipino family understands, that sometimes hearing someone you love is enough to feel home again.
“Behind every OFW is a Filipino family waiting for Christmas to finally feel complete. The Coca-Cola SoundOfHome.FM was created from a place of deep respect for these Filipino families and the extraordinary sacrifices they make for one another,” said Frenissa Lagman, Senior Director for Marketing, Coca-Cola Philippines. “We know that Christmas can feel especially heavy for some, if not all, OFWs who spend the holidays far from the people they love. Through this initiative, our hope is simple: to bring them even a small piece of home. A familiar voice, a song, a message that reminds them that they are never forgotten. If Sound of Home offered even a moment of comfort to someone overseas, then we have done something meaningful this Christmas.”
Nikhil Panjwani, Executive Creative Director at OpenX, added: “We know that during the holidays, the distance and not being with family can feel heavier than ever. With SoundOfHome.FM, we wanted to bring a moment of comfort, a small piece of home to Filipinos overseas – a familiar voice, a favourite carol, something to remind them that their sacrifice, love, and dedication are seen, valued, and appreciated. That is the real spirit of Christmas, and we are honoured to help bring it to life.”
The Sound of Home initiative reinforces the Coca-Cola™ brand’s longstanding belief in the power of human connection and the importance of uplifting those who give so much of themselves during the holidays. By enabling families to connect through music, memory, and message, Coca-Cola celebrates the real magic of Filipino Christmas – one that thrives on love, sacrifice, and togetherness, even across oceans.
