IN an inspiring evening dedicated to advancing sustainable development, the Nation Builders and MOSLIV Awards brought together leaders across sectors to celebrate their commitment to progress and resilience.

Held at the Grand Ballroom of Okada Manila and organized by Sustainability Standards, Incorporated (SSI), the event served not only as a recognition platform but also as a rallying cry for collective action towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

The MOSLIV Awards—“Most Sustainable and Liveable”—focuses on galvanizing Filipinos to work toward achieving climate neutrality and social equity. With the world approaching the halfway mark of the UN SDG 2030 Agenda, the event highlighted both the progress made and the urgency of the work still ahead.

“Our experiences through the challenges of the past years have strengthened our resolve to face the future with greater readiness and determination,” said SSI President and CEO Kenneth Rocete.

Sustainability as a Shared Responsibility

At the heart of the awards night was the message of unity and shared responsibility. From policymakers and business leaders to local government officials and young innovators, each honoree represented a piece of the collective effort required to create a sustainable future.

“Sustainability is not just about environmental conservation; it’s about ensuring equitable opportunities, fostering community resilience, and prioritizing the well-being of future generations,” shared Rocete.

Among those recognized were individuals and organizations whose work has directly contributed to climate-conscious governance, community development, and strong capacity building:

● Hon. Dakila Carlo E. Cua, Awarded Governor of the Year – for his role in enhancing governance and institutional resilience as ULAP – National President; LPP – National Chairman and 
Governor, Province of Quirino

● Atty. Saul Paulo A. Lazo, Awarded Board Member of the Year – for his innovative local resolutions and ordinances pushing for the strong governance strategies that integrate sustainability principles as the National Chairman of National Movement for Young Legislators (NMYL) and as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member of Ilocos Norte

● Hon. Handy T. Lao, Awarded Public Servant if the Year Excellence in Peace and Nation Building – for its initiatives in eco-conscious Philippine Councilor League as it’s National President and legislations uplifting the local e-commerce and trade for Laoag City

● Hon. Maria Katrina Jessica Gallegos-Dy, Awarded Honorary Public Servant of the Year Excellence in Peace and Nation Building for her role in enhancing countryside development and Barangay e-governance as the Liga ng Barangay – National President 

● Hon. Bernard “Ninong” C. Dela Cruz , Awarded Honorary Public Servant of the Year Excellence in Peace and Nation Building – for his project initiatives creating economic dynamism and resolution adopting SDG’s to all City and Municipal Vice Mayor as the National Chairman of the Vice Mayors League of the Philippines (VMLP)

The private sector also played a prominent role, with leaders like Catherine Florine Sollano-Cusi of Aqua Technologies and James P. Amparo of Yovel East Research & Development recognized for driving sustainability and innovation within their industries.

Aligning with Global Goals

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reinforced the importance of collective action, emphasizing that addressing climate change and inequality requires participation from all levels of society.

“To achieve the UN SDGs, we must work together—from creating inclusive policies to practicing responsible energy consumption. These awardees exemplify the leadership and commitment needed to bring about meaningful change,” the President stated.

The awards also serve as a platform to amplify public awareness about sustainability, encouraging citizens to embrace practices that reduce environmental impact. From adopting greener lifestyles to participating in civic programs, the evening underscored the power of individual actions in shaping national outcomes.
