Culture-shifting singer-songwriter, rapper, multi-instrumentalist and producer Kofi KOFI DROPS NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO “HAUNT ME” FEATURING 2KBABY with a confident new sound in his first release of 2022, “Haunt Me” featuring 2KBABY.The single is accompanied by a music video, kicking off the roll out of his forthcoming album.
“Haunt Me” is the first taste of what he has been cooking and is sure to get fans eager for more. The melodic track about a past love is dark but surprisingly upbeat and features some of Kofi’s most impressive vocals and lyricism yet. Reminiscent of Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams”, the single introduces a new vibe for Kofi. The production is bold with raw instrumentals, accompanied by a sharp trap beat. His raspy vocals glide over the production seamlessly, complementing his razor-sharp lyrics.
Kofi’s hard-hitting lyricism continues to shine through with each release, with Kofi taking his songwriting up another level in the new single. He gets vulnerable on the track and writes about a failed love that his thoughts can’t escape. The chorus concludes, “My memories with you they haunt me.”
“I’m super excited for ‘Haunt Me.’ I haven’t released in almost a year but I feel like this is the way to come back. From the time I heard 2K’s verse, I knew it was over and we had to come crazy with the video.”, Kofi shares.
The cinematic music video for “Haunt Me” adds a touch of mystery to the track. The video features the duo outside of a motel surrounded by dramatic lighting. It tells a darker story, with various characters joining the rappers’ setting. The characteristically haunting video emphasises the dark mood of the single while Kofi and 2KBABY complement each other effortlessly on both the track and visuals.
A multi-faceted artist with a clear hands-on approach to his craft, Kofi was classically trained in piano from a young age and is inspired by not only the diverse community around him in Toronto, but his Ghanaian roots. His talent comes from an authentic love of making music and his inspirations draw evidently through both his lyrical approach and production style.
Armed with his MacBook, he became a go-to engineer for various local artists and taught himself how to produce in high school. Eventually, he wound up at UCLA as a star on the Bruins volleyball team. Simultaneously, he gained traction with a series of independent singles, including “Came Up” and “Wake Up”. Picking up further momentum, he joined forces with multi platinum Canadian rapper Pressa on “Snow” and landed a sync placement on the NBA 2K20 Soundtrack with “Hold Me Down”.
Signing to Red Bull Records, he revealed the ‘Story of My Life’ EP in 2020, producing three of the project’s six cuts himself. The single “Babygirl” captured #1 on the Soundcloud New & Hot US Chart, #2 on the Soundcloud Top 50 US Singles Chart, and #4 on the Soundcloud New & Hot Global Chart. Along the way, he also earned high-profile fans such as Drake, Walshy Fire of Major Lazer and Kardinal Offishall, to name a few. Kofi has amassed over ten million streams to date, and incited applause from the likes of The New York Times, Complex, Earmilk and more.
