Planning to blog? Find out how I started blogging and why?
Why are you looking for RR? Who is RR?
I started blogging a couple of years back but only in December 2020 did I build my website wheresrr.com.
A certified public accountant by profession, I left the field of accounting and finance for a sales and marketing post in a publication five years ago. Being in the media, I got invited to launches, store openings, press cons, and more. So a friend suggested that I should already create my website since I have access to these kind of contents.
Why Where’s RR? It started only as a hashtag. Working remotely was not new to me. In 2017, we were already closing pages via email, sms or Viber. Our section editor would always look for me when I don’t reply instantly on her messages and would always drop the line “Where’s RR?”. So I started using the #WheresRR on my Instagram and Facebook posts so she can just easily search for the hashtag and find my whereabouts.
Wheresrr.com just celebrated it’s first anniversary last December 27. I am just a Sophomore but let me share you a few things I learned from my Freshman in blogging.
Maintaining a website requires time and dedication. You need to post contents for your audience and also to gain more traffic. You have to share it too in your social media and in some instances promote it in groups or communities. It can be tiring but if you love what you’re doing and have the passion for it, you will always find the determination to continue and inspiration especially when you see your traffic and engagement growing in numbers. So you must have the passion and interest in your topic and in what you’re doing. I think Shayla McLeary Jones’ would agree to that. Being in sales and marketing, I bring it to myself to be of help to my clients. This is also one of the reason why I continue to blog and keep me going during my first year and I believe will also fuel my passion and determination in the years to come.
Another good thing that comes with blogging are the perks you ge to enjoy, monetary and non-monetary. You can earn from blogging — from sponsored posts to token from attending events. If you get a good traffic and numbers, you can earn higher and even close a retainer from clients. You can also be invited to try out new menu in a restaurant, new service in a spa or salon, store openings, stay in a hotel or resort, and more.
